SADD - NIAAA Video Challenge - ALL NEW!

This year SADD is partnering with the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) on a video challenge to counter misconceptions about alcohol and address concerns about alcohol misuse. 

For this challenge, you are welcome to create any type of short video (45 to 90 seconds in length). We are particularly interested in messages that—

  • Counter misconceptions about alcohol and its effects
  • Address concerns that high schoolers have about alcohol misuse
  • Offer messages that counter the expectations and motivations behind why teens drink

PRIZES

Up to 17, $500 scholarships to the 2019 SADD National Conference will be awarded as part of this challenge. 

RULES AND REGULATIONS

  1. Students from schools with SADD chapters are eligible to participate. If your school does not have a SADD chapter, start one – it’s so easy to do! Here is how to start a SADD chapter in your school.
  2. Submissions must be original and not contain any copyrighted or protected materials, content or music.
  3. Complete the google form to enter -- https://forms.gle/9eXtTCJWbqTUdn6W7
  4. Videos must be 45 to 90 seconds in length.
  5. Please review the following two documents and use any of the facts and statistics that you find in your video submissions.
    1. Alcohol Overdose: The Dangers of Drinking Too Much – NIAAA Fact Sheet
    2. Keeping It Real – and Safe, by Aaron M. White, Ph.D.
  6. Entries will be judged on adherence to requirements, creativity and message.
  7. Entries are due to SADD by midnight June 7, 2019.
  8. NIAAA and SADD will select certain entries for recognition the week of June 10.  Selected entries will also be shown at the awards celebration at the SADD National Conference. 

VIDEO SUBMISSION TIPS

Try to answer the following questions throughout your submission.

  • Who is your target audience? Is your video for students, parents, teachers or all of the above?
  • Did you use facts or information from the NIAAA resources provided?
  • What are common misperceptions teens, or their parents have about drinking alcohol?  How do you counter them?
  • Why do teens drink?
  • Are there messages that counter the expectations and motivations behind why teens drink?  What are they?
  • Before you submit the video check to make sure it is between 45 to 90 seconds in length. 

Also check to make sure the volume in the video works and we can hear the message!!
